Frequently Asked Questions
Can my child join a class at any time?
We welcome enrolments to our classes at any time throughout the year. Your term fee would be reflective of the number of classes remaining, plus our annual Academy registration fee.
Do you offer trial classes?
We offer a free trial lesson to all new dancers so that they have a chance to try Irish dancing before committing to a full term of classes. Please complete our free trial registration form to register your interest.
What does my dancer need for class?
For our new dancers, we encourage them to wear something comfortable that they can easily move around in. They can dance in their socks for the first few lessons and then we encourage the purchase of some basic canvas slipper shoes.
There is no pressure to purchase a uniform when first starting, but we do recommend purchasing an Academy uniform once your dancer completes a term with us.
Gregory Academy dancers are expected to wear appropriate attire to their dance classes. Check out our uniform page for more information.
What can I expect from our first class?
We have structured our classes to ensure that our dancers learn the basics of dance, rhythm and balance whilst keeping it a fun and full of energy for them. We teach them more than just the movement to music, and we can guarantee that by the end of their first class they are joining in with our signature dance – The Flower Dance – choreographed and danced by all our students for over 20 years!

More information about each of our classes can be found here.
Does it matter if my child hasn't danced before?
We welcome dancers of all ages and all skill sets - from brand new dancers to experienced dancers.
Can I stay and watch my child's dance class?
Our studio dance area is for dancers only, except when Little G’s and Beginner parents are invited into the studio to view the Flower Dance.

Our dance classes are designed as a teacher/child class. All parents are requested to wait in the studio reception area for classes to conclude.
What if my child doesn't participate at their first class?
For our new Little G's and Beginners, sometimes starting a new activity can be a little overwhelming. Our teaching team are here to help ensure your dancers transition into our classes is easy and fun. Each child is different, and we will tailor our approach to suit - some dancers will jump right in, whilst others would prefer to initially sit and observe. Whatever approach your dancer takes, we will support and encourage them.

Don't be discouraged if your dancer doesn't join in straight away, we will work with them to build their confidence and to feel comfortable in the studio.
Will my child be able to enter competitions?
We encourage all our dancers to participate in competitions to assist in developing their confidence and stage presence. When your child is ready to enter a competition, we will let you know, and it will be you and your dancers decision whether they participate. Most of our dancers do enter competitions regularly.
